Geographic Information Technologies

Geographic Information System (GIS) system is a composite technology beginning with the digital landscapes. It divided in to three main categories.

Global Positioning system (GPS)
            Remote Sensing (RS)
            Geographic Information System (GIS)

What is Global Positioning system (GPS)
Global positioning system refers to a system of satellites and receivers that allow people and devices to pinpoint their precise location on the earth. GPS as it relates to GIS work, as well as GPS attribute inputs and interactive GPS relay. GPS has become a major component of GIS and will continue to be an essential Input for fieldwork.

Remote Sensing (RS)
Remote sensing is Science and Art of a technique or other word it can be define as what is there without going there. This system refers to techniques that use sensors to acquire data/information about objects not in contact with (distant from) the viewing instrument.

Geographic Information System (GIS)
GIS is a Special kind of computer based technology and methodology for collection, managing, analyzing, modeling, and presenting geographic data for a wide range of applications. GIS use for most of the advanced computer mapping systems. GIS stand for
Geographic: The real world; spatial realities.
Information: Data and Information; their meaning and use.
System: Computer technology and its support infrastructure.
This system allows users work in set of computer tools that allows to work with data that are tied to a particular location.

Why GIS is a Special kind of application?
GIS allows users to store attributes with their locations or it has spatial data and attribute data. GIS is more than just software, it refers to all aspects of managing and using digital geographical data.
